THE DIVISION
The Business & Computer Information Technology Division provides state of the art education in business and computing technology. The CIT Department offers two-year associate of applied science degrees, one-year and career pathway certificates, and transfer programs of study in the areas of computer simulation and game development, network administration, network security, health informatics, computer programming, web programming, and computer support. The ideal candidate will bring innovative and participatory leadership to the Computer Simulation and Game Development Program degree, specifically focused on simulation and game programming.

THE COLLEGE
Lane Community College, a comprehensive community college in beautiful Eugene, Oregon, has begun the search for a Gaming and Programming Instructor. The college offers a wide variety of instructional programs including transfer credit programs, professional technical degree and certificate programs, continuing education noncredit courses, programs in English as a Second Language and International ESL, GED programs, and customized training for local businesses. Classes are offered at several locations, and online classes and telecourses are also available. More than 36,000 students take credit or noncredit classes at Lane each year. Lane has the second largest enrollment of the 17 community colleges in Oregon. Lane serves a 4,600 square mile area from the Cascade Mountains to the Pacific Ocean (this is an area larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined).

EDUCATION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field plus 45 additional quarter credit hours of advanced course work deemed to be equivalent to Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Simulation, or Game Development.
PREFERRED EDUCATION
Master’s degree in Computer Game Development from an accredited institution preferred.
EXPERIENCE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Two years full-time professional work experience in developing games or creating and maintaining virtual worlds.
Or
Two years full-time instructional experience teaching game development or related topics at the community college or college level.
Or
A combination of full-time or part-time work in either of these areas that adds up to the equivalent of two years full-time experience.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
* Recent classroom teaching or curriculum development experience preferred.
* Experience developing and teaching online courses in game development, computer programming, or other computer science courses preferred.
* Grant experience preferred.

POSITION PURPOSE
Primarily to develop, update, and teach (online & traditional) courses in game development, computer programming, and computer science courses. Develop and maintain a viable, vibrant gaming program that graduates full cohorts of students who are competitive in the workplace.
Instructional Faculty are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing a quality and inspiring learning experience for all Lane Community College students. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of teacher of record and facilitator of achievement learning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
COMPUTER INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
* serve as course and/or program lead; including development and maintenance of courses in computer programming, game design, game development, and immersive worlds
* support student learning and industry standards by developing and maintaining community relationships and acting as a liaison with both local and national game development companies
* ensure currency in computer science, game related technologies, games in education, and immersive worlds
* coach and develop interpersonal skills in relationship to completing team projects within expected parameters and timelines
* plan, instruct and evaluate both introductory and advanced college-transfer and professional-technical courses and degree program curricula appropriate to the community college level CS/CIS discipline
* perform grant supported research
Support student learning through activities that include:
* exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures, accountability for leave time, time sheet completion, release time, text book ordering and related functions
* sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching
* collegial participation in faculty performance evaluation process
* maintain and post teaching schedule, regular meetings and office hours
* maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college and community, as specified in the College Operations Policies and Procedures: http://www.lanecc.edu/cops/index.htm
* maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and/or other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory
* behavior consistent with the “Statement on Professional Ethics” of the American Association of University Professors
Curriculum Delivery
* provide high quality classroom instruction
* create course content, develop and revise course content and materials
* establish learning outcomes consistent with core ability outcomes, assess outcomes using appropriate assessment tools, and use assessment results to inform improvements at a program and course level
* incorporate college values into curriculum and promote a respectful learning environment
* promote and facilitate awareness in developing multicultural and diversity-based curricula
* teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials, in a form that can be directly delivered to, and used by, students
* confer with students on course materials
* review written examinations and papers; keep students informed of progress through prompt grading of student programs and projects
* in partnership with library and information resources personnel, ensure that the use of these resources is integrated into the learning process (NWCCU Standard 2.A.8)
* develop skills and commit to evaluation of emerging technologies (such as distance learning and immersive worlds) for use with instructional delivery methods
* use methods that engage students and encourage retention and persistence
