Assistant Professor – Cinema, Photography, and Media Arts Roy H. Park School of Communications

Ithaca College invites applications for a renewable, three-year, non-tenure-eligible Assistant Professor appointment in writing for interactive media, film, and television beginning August 16, 2010. Responsibilities will include teaching writing for videogames and interactive media as well as all levels of writing for film or television, in addition to the development of new courses. Candidates with experience in writing for any of the following are particularly encouraged to apply: webseries, videogames and immersive or interactive, and/or non-linear media.  The candidate appointed to this position will teach a full time load typical for this department, and will also act as academic advisor to students and serve on department, school, and College committees.  Reassigned time up to one course per year for specific academic/creative proposals may be available through College Faculty Development programs. In addition, the Park School of Communications provides substantial support for specific academic/creative proposals under the auspices of the Pendleton Faculty Research and Production Grant Program.   Qualifications:  MFA in screenwriting preferred.  A terminal degree in a related discipline and exceptional professional experience will be considered.  The ideal candidate should also demonstrate evidence of: 1) a strong creative/professional record; 2) teaching effectiveness appropriate for an undergraduate cinema and television program; and 3) a commitment to teaching writing for the screen as a creative practice.  The Department of Cinema, Photography, and Media Arts at Ithaca College confers both B.S. and B.F.A. degree programs with a strong commitment to integrating production and critical studies.   The Roy H. Park School of Communications is one of four professional schools within the College, and enrolls approximately 1,300 students in the majors of four undergraduate departments (Cinema, Photography, and Media Arts; Television-Radio; Journalism; and Strategic Communication).  The Ithaca College Los Angeles Communications Program offers an internship-based full-semester program to junior and senior communication students.  The Graduate Studies program offers an M.S. in Communications.  Recent grants and bequests from the Park Foundation and the estate of James B. Pendleton, totaling over $27 million, have positioned the Park School as one of the strongest undergraduate communication programs in the nation and created state-of-the-art support facilities in film, video, photography, multi-media and telecommunications.
